Lord Jagannath Temple

Puri is 65 kms which is 2 hours drive by road from Bhubaneswar City and Airport.

The main deities of the temple are Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Lord Balabhadra and their sister Devi Subhadra.

Lord Jagannath means Lord of Universe. Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri is the abode of Lod Jagannath ( Lord Vishnu ).

Puri is one of the three destinations of Golden Triangle Tour of Odisha ( Orissa ) and other two destinations are Konark and Bhubaneswar. Most of the tourists, coming to Orissa, are seen with a program to visit Lord Jaganath Temple.

Non-Hindus are not allowed inside the Jagannath Temple, Puri.

Jagannath Temple, Puri is one of the Char Dhams of Lord Vishnu in India. And the other three Dhams in India are Badrinath, Dwarkanath and Rameshwaram.

It is written in history that, Raja Chodaganga Dev built the Jagannath Temple in 12th Century. And according to the mythological version, prior to Raja Chodaganga Dev, it was the Kind Indradyumna’s era, when the Idols of main deities of the temple, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and their sister Devi Subhadra are made-up of wood.

Rath Yatra the Chariot-pulling Car Festival of Lord Jagannath is celebrated every year in Puri and many devotees from across the world gather here to pull 3 chariots on this auspicious occasion.  

The other attraction of Puri is Puri Beach.
